About the event
This colour pencil workshop is suitable for anyone with a basic understanding of drawing and shading, but it is not essential. Some past experience with colouring and coloured pencils would be useful, but again, not essential as guidance and support will be given throughout the day.
The day will begin with a quick overview and some useful exercises to help us warm up and get a feel for the pencils on the paper. We will move straight into practicing the most useful techniques that will support you with the completion of the floral drawing for the rest of the day. I'll be on hand to demonstrate different sections, give advice and support as a group, or 1:1 as needed.Â
MATERIALS - Â A full list will be provided separately in advance of the event. It is recommended you bring your own pencils and paper, however some Derwent Chromaflow pencils and hot pressed watercolour paper will be available for anyone who's not ready to make an investment yet.
The main workshop drawing will be bright and floral - Reference image will be provided separately in advance of the event.
A pre-made line drawing will also be provided in advance for ease. It is recommended you transfer the image/line drawing to your paper before the workshop so as to maximise drawing time on the day. Â You are not oblilged to use the line drawing supplied if you are confident and comfortable creating your outlines another way.
By the end of the day you will have completed much, if not all, of the drawing and will have learned and practiced some of the key techninques for getting lifelike details, great saturation, and good contrast into a realistic floral drawing.
The Hayward Studio is a purpose built teaching space in a private garden. There are toilet facilities, and provisions for tea/coffee/water (in the house) throughout the day, but please ensure you bring something for lunch.
It is not wheelchair accessible. There is a small step to enter the studio.
Parking is available on street outside the house.Â
